Dallas forced Hawks to take Daley in the essential cap-dumping Patrick Sharp trade. When Daley resisted or was unable to adopt his game to the Hawks' defensive system, his minutes were reduced, and he requested a trade. The Hawks acceded to his request as they didn't want an unhappy veteran player sullying the organization's reputation, which is how they ended up with Scuderi, who they knew was done. Now the Pens are getting the true Daley, with his defensive warts. |

With the emergence of Justin Schultz, the worst defense man in the league we were told, Trevor Daley can be reduced to third pairing minutes. Also with Daley's contract expiring at the end of the year, there will be no need rush into a panic trade.
Unless a serious injury occurs he should be okay in the bottom pairing and if one of the young defense that the Pens have emerge, so much the better.
By the way, I thought the hold up on the Sharp trade was due to the Stars insisting on Stephen Johns. |

Dumo being out along with recent flu that went through the locker room has messed with the D combos as well. Also the down time from the holidays and the 8 days off as well. Im not happy with Daleys play recently either, but I'm not so quick to write him off. Not saying Id scoff at the right trade offer, but to make claims that he has all the warts just makes you sound jaded as a hawks fan. |

We still need to add a 5/6 D man at the tdl. You can't go into the playoffs with only 6 NHL defenseman. Ideally need 8. |

Didnt see the game last night. Did something happen before that where Sully was pissed? I didnt see anything in that clip that he could have mouthed off to the ref about. |

Barrie? - eNDSo
Avs are not even expansion draft compliant yet with the D, they need to add or resign someone just so they can expose. Can't afford to move any Dman under contract |

I think duchene would fit better than landeskog. |

A penalty was called on Shultz for goaltender interference or interference in front of the goalie. Cant rem which. |

I dont really see the need for Landeskog or Duchene. LW is a "weakness" and of course we could use those players would be nice...but I dont see another $5+M salary forward.
Maybe its possible, considering Fleury, Scuderi, Kunitz, etc eventually coming off the books...but I would start upgrading on defense first.
If we were making a bigger kind of trade like this. I would still focus on someone like Trouba. |

Amazing that with all of the high draft picks that were previously spent on defensemen, most of which have to date turned out to be busts (Morrow, Harrington & Pouliot), that the Pens are in need of an upgrade to their defense corps. Daley hasn't played as well this year no question, but I think his ice time will likely be further reduced once Dumo comes back from his injury ...especially with Schultz playing so well. |

Not trolling but the failed defense picks issue has been beaten to death already and we are in a much better/different situation than we were 2-3 seasons ago. That excuse doesnt fly anymore with the upgrades made throughout the org. and a Stanley Cup in hand. |

I dont know, I think Landeskog would perform similar to how James Neal did. |

How do you figure? The Avs have Johnson & Beauchmin who are auto protected because of their NMCs, they then have Barrie, Tutin & Wiercioch who are all draft eligible and then they have Zadarov(1 game) and Gelinas(12 games) who will be eligible shortly. By my count that's 7 defenseman that meet the requirements for being draft eligible so even with protect 4 they will have 3 defenseman exposed in the draft without making a single move.

Speaking of Dmen off their game, how's Tanger been playing???
So now possession stats are the centre piece of a blog that reviews a player/game? I've been told previously that analytics are there to 'assist' with the eye test? What other comparables are we showing about Daleys play to judge what he's doing on the ice?
It appears this is again another blog pushing only the analytics 'evidence' & only a single form of that.
Have to laugh at the Hawks person that commented, looks like they (Hawks) preferred to have Scuderi over Daley!! |

I blame MAF. Daley will regain his form once Fleury finds a new team. |

They only have 3 D that meet the exposure requirements (signed for next year), Johnson, Beauchemin, Barrie, with the first two being auto protected like you mentioned, and 1 must be exposed. So until a sign or trade, Barrie must be exposed. |

Beyond unlikely they will leave over half the D they have this year unresigned before the season ends. Extensions for a few will come. Teams aren't going to put everything on hold just because of the fear of the expo draft. |

That's why I said until a resign or trade. Just trying to explain the rules and why the other guy said what he did since this guy didn't get it. |
